Red and Nir Light Therapy: Nourishing the Body and Mind
BENEFITS OF RED LIGHT THERAPY
Jan 23, 2022
Light Therapy - food for your body; providing nutrient-rich "food" that promotes increased well-being.
Research on light therapy has advanced over the last few years, it has become increasingly clear that treatment offers incredible health benefits.
Clinical studies are beginning to explore the diverse potential of red and near-infrared wavelengths to cure a variety of physiological and mental conditions.
Think of red light as "food" for your body; providing nutrient-dense nourishment that contributes to enhanced well-being.
THE BENEFITS OF RED LIGHT TREATMENT FOR A VARIETY OF CONDITIONS.
Some of the scientifically proven results of red light therapy researched to date include:
Near infra-red light reduces the general inflammation of the body by decreasing the presence of inflammatory markers. This reduction can help ease the symptoms associated with joint pain, sore muscles, autoimmune diseases, arthritis, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries.
In clinical studies, neuropathic pain caused by a spinal cord injury was significantly reduced with red light therapy. The scientists who carried out the study described it as "an interesting perspective with important clinical relevance".
Near-infrared light wavelengths reduce overall pain by reducing joint stiffness and pain, decreasing inflammation, easing muscle spasms and improving blood circulation.
3.DECREASED RECOVERY TIMES AFTER TRAINING AND INJURY
For high performance athletes (and those who train like them) red light therapy can help speed up muscle repair after tiredness and injuries. Mitochondria within cells are particularly responsive to red light therapy, and muscle cells are exceptionally rich in mitochondria. In addition, red light therapy can stimulate stem cells, contributing to muscle recovery.
4.IMPROVING FERTILITY AND BOOSTING TESTOSTERONE LEVELS.
Around the age of 30, male testosterone levels naturally begin to go down. Men who hope to get a natural boost to their sexual impulses, sexual satisfaction, fertility and physical performance can reap benefits from red light therapy.
Red and near-infrared wavelengths can stimulate photoreceptor proteins in the testicles leading to higher testosterone production. Other studies have theorized that low-level light therapy may affect the pineal gland in the brain, which has a significant impact on reproduction.
5.HEALTHIER AND PLUMPER SKIN WITH INCREASED COLLAGEN PRODUCTION
Light therapy can radically change your skin. Red light wavelengths specifically target mitochondrial chromophores in skin cells, generating collagen protein production. Collagen stimulation has more holistic and long-lasting benefits than simply resurfacing the outer layers of the skin.
Stem cells can also be triggered, increasing tissue repair. This results in an acceleration of wound healing and repair, an improvement in the appearance of hypertrophic scars, a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, and an improvement in skin texture. Participants in one study had a clinically evaluated improvement in the complexion and density of collagen.
6.STIMULATION OF HAIR GROWTH
Alopecia, or hair loss, is a common disorder among 50% of men over the age of 40 and 75% of women over the age of 65. Few approved and effective therapies exist. Studies conducted in both men and women showed that red light therapy can stimulate hair growth.
Red light wavelengths are believed to stimulate epidermal stem cells in the hair follicle, moving the follicle into the anagenic phase (this is the active growth stage). Studies in mice with chemotherapy-induced alopecia showed similar reactivity - treatment promoted hair growth.
7.IMPROVED CIRCULATION (IMPROVED BLOOD FLOW)
In many studies, it has been clinically proven that light therapy increases the size of blood vessels and improves blood circulation. Furthermore, red light treatment protects red blood cells against oxidative stress and limits platelet loss during surgery.
